The Top 5 Myths About Interviews.

1. The Most Qualified Applicant Will Get The Job

False! While employers enjoy seeing a qualified candidate, there are many other factors that are just as important and play into their decision making. These factors can include but are not limited to personality, the questions you ask, references, etc. Don’t let a more qualified candidate get your spirits down and remember that that doesn’t automatically get them the job!

2. Following Up Looks Desperate

False! Following up confirms your interest and enthusiasm for the position at hand. Following up will let your employer know you are dedicated to the position they are hiring for and will ultimately make you look like that much better of a candidate!

3. You Shouldn’t Have Questions

False again! Along with preparing your answers to the interview questions you should prepare one or two of your own for the employer. Having some questions prepared lets the interviewer know that you have given much thought and time to the position you are applying for. Some questions you could ask include; what does a typical day look like in the office? What skills are you missing in your company that you look for in new hires? What challenges will I face in this position?

4. You Don’t Need To Practice For An Interview

False! Practicing is essential for a smooth interview. Think about what questions you may be asked and prepare answers for them. Do mock interviews with friends or family members or even yourself. Make sure you have an idea of what you are going to say to the interviewer.

5. Your Resume Will Do The Talking

False! Your resume can only get you so far- as in getting you the interview. The interview is a whole different ball game and needs to be prepared for. Employers look for a good personality to fit their company, not just good skills listed on a resume. Being well spoken and confident is very important within an interview.
